Rocky Horror Picture Show Transylvanians

A slight tangent from my usual genealogy research!

I’ve been a huge Rocky Horror fan for as long as I can remember. There are photos of me dressing up as Columbia when I was around four years old. I used to read the stage show script and the Rocky Horror Book by James Harding all the time – in fact, the only time I was ever told off by my beloved Grandpa was when I was reading the book in his car and not looking out the window at things he was pointing out!

The first album I ever bought was a cassette of the Roxy cast recording and my room was always packed with posters, toys and other memorabilia. Even the first ever website I made (thank you Geocities!) was part Scream fan and part Rocky Horror nerd. I’ve seen the UK stage tour multiple times, forced friends to dress up for “appreciation nights” at my house, and just this year, travelled to Toronto to meet Patricia Quinn as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the movie.

All that is to say, I consider myself a proper Rocky Horror enthusiast – a regular Frankie fan, if you will. But, until a few months ago I had no idea about something…

Most people realize that there’s something odd about the church attendants at Ralph and Betty’s wedding and quickly recognize Frank-N-Furter, Riff Raff, Magenta, and Columbia. However, they’re not the only ones you should spot… pretty much all of the party-going Transylvanians (the unconventional conventionists!) are there too!

So, to help all the people like me who had NO IDEA, here’s some proof...

  5. Stephen Calcutt
  6. Hugh Cecil
  7. Imogen Claire
  8. Rufus Collins [Not listed in the credits, as he was hired as Dance Consultant]

Plus, Tim Curry as Frank-N-Furter, Richard O’Brien as Riff Raff, Patricia Quinn as Magenta, and Little Nell as Columbia.

There's also Tony Cowan, but he only appears in the ballroom scene (Time Warp & Sweet Transvestite) when Henry was unavailable:

The movie opens with two of our guys as the photographers:

1. Perry Bedden & 18. Henry Woolf

Then a bunch of them are in Ralph and Betty’s photo:

3. Gaye Brown, 6. Hugh Cecil, 10. Fran Fullenwider, 12. Peggy Ledger, 14. Anthony Milner, F. Tim Curry, R. Richard O’Brien, M. Patricia Quinn

Plus Earthlings: Ralph & Betty, four adults (including Koo Stark) and two kids

While the rest enjoy the day:

2. Christopher Biggins, 5. Stephen Calcutt, 7. Imogen Claire, 11. Lindsay Ingram, 13. Annabelle Leventon, 17. Kimi Wong

And Little Nell is polishing inside:

The only Transylvanians to not attend the wedding are 4. Ishaq Bux, 9. Sadie Corré, 15. Pamela Obermeyer, and 16. Tony Then.

So, there you go! Hopefully this will blow some other people's minds too 🫦
