David Baird (1895-1916)
David Edmond Baird was born on 14 May 1895 in Quebec, Canada to William John Baird (a farmer) and Mary Jane Peever.

David moved to Coquitlam, where he was a labourer. He enlisted on 11 November 1914 and served as a private with the 29th Battalion.

David was killed in action at Ypres on 13 August 1916, aged 21. The newspapers stated he was “the first local boy to fall in battle”.
