Joe Zappia (1922-1944)
Joseph Zappia was born on 7 December 1922 in Port Coquitlam, BC, to Antonio Zappia and Maria Virginia Medici. His parents were Italian and moved to Canada around 1916.

Joe followed in his father’s footsteps and also worked as a Section Man for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He enlisted in October 1942 and served as Rifleman with the Regina Rifles of Canada.

Joe was killed in action in France on 9 June 1944, aged 21.
