Vancouver Centennial Plaque #64 – Lord's Day Act
Address: 588 Dunsmuir Street (no address in the file, so have placed where the bus terminal was)
Status: Missing
The file at the Vancouver Archives didn’t include the official text for this plaque, so I’ve drafted my own version of what it may have covered.
“LORD'S DAY ACT
In 1947, four “bootblacks” were convicted under the Lord’s Day Act for operating on a Sunday. It was the first conviction of its kind in Canada and the employees of the bus terminal shoeshine stand were fined $5 each.”
